We hope you had a wonderful holiday, and a great time welcoming in 2015. For a lot of us, the new year brings a time for introspection and awareness, especially if that involves our bodies: what we put into them, how we work them out, what we put ON them. But before we launch into the exciting news that Orchid Boutique is now carrying activewear for women, let’s discuss a few resolutions in order to get our health the new year boost it needs.

 

1. Clean Eating

Now, many of you might not have heard about superfoods, so we’ll break it down for you.  A superfood is a type of food which is powerful enough to help you lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer, and an added bonus, even put you in a better mood! Now, you can see why they’re called super, right? Each superfood is real and unprocessed, which means when incorporated into a healthy diet, you’re able to maintain your weight, fight disease and live even longer. 2. Treat Yo’self

Exercising can be demanding and exhausting and sometimes you just flat out don’t want to do it. I don’t blame you, I’ve been there. But do you know what really helps when your motivation is shot to hell? A new wardrobe. I’m not saying go out and buy all new clothes and then you’ll feel great, I’m saying treat yourself to some of the best workout clothes you can find and see how it helps motivate you to hit the trails. When you have a new outfit, or some designer activewear, it helps trigger things in your overall attitude that you weren’t feeling before.

3. Exercise Damnit

Exercise is important. We all know this.We hear it daily. We hear it so much that it frustrates the heck out of us and if we’re NOT doing it we feel guilty. Crazy, right? So, I don’t want to say in a naggy girlfriend way, “you should be exercising daily, blah blah blah”. Albeit, it’s true, we’re taking a different approach– Just move your body. Move around more. Take the stairs whenever the opportunity presents itself. Park further away so you can get in a walk here and then. Or just go out and take a walk. You know what is the easiest way to get moving? Buy a jump rope and do it for 15 minutes every day. That’s it. You’ll get your heart rate up, you’ll build your stamina, and you’ll sweat. It’s that simple. But establish a healthy habit of movement for your body early on, so that it seems more natural and less forced. Exercising is a must, especially when you have those cute workout outfits to show off.

4. Get More Sleep

There comes a point in your life where you grow up and realize that sleep is more important than most other things in life. Why? It makes you feel good. Plain and simple. You’re not struggling to stay awake the next day when you have 8 hours under your belt. You’re not cranky and aloof. You’re focused and you just feel good. I know for some it’s easier said then done. We’re all busy and have a busy schedule. But when you go to bed early more often than not, your body will feel it and will thank you for it. Establishing a sleeping habit or a routine will keep your body in a steady equilibrium. Welcome to adulthood, my friend, where sleep becomes a more important priority than going out with your friends.

 

5. Drink More Water

This is so ridiculously important, I can’t even stress it enough. It’s like the oldest trick in the book. I was just speaking to a few of my coworkers yesterday about the benefits of drinking water from the blog I wrote months back. If you haven’t read it, I advise you to do so, because it is chock full of important information. Water contributes to healthier skin, eliminating toxins and illness from your body, curing dehydration which kicks headaches to the curb, and so much more. The Institute of Medicine sets a basic guideline for total water intake. It recommends that women should consume 91 ounces per day – from all food and beverages combined. So we’re talking coffee, tea, cereal, mouthwash (joking, don’t swallow that, gross). Depending on your diet, about 25% of the water you consume should come from your food. For men, the average intake is about 125 ounces a day. So get to drinking and establish this as your main health habit.

 

6. Stretchhhhhhhh

It’s true, stretching is a really beneficial part of your health. Stretching exercise practices like yoga also help relax muscles, and your mind so you stress less. The feeling of well-being, and vitality you will notice as a result of a regular flexibility routine can provide many important health benefits. Stretching is not just a part of a workout, it can be a workout by itself. But before you say your “namaste”, head on over and glimpse our new yoga clothes for women.
