Maaji 2016 Swim Week Runway Show

It’s not surprising that one of the most highly anticipated runway shows for Miami Swim Week is one of our personal favorites: Maaji. The Maaji Swimwear 2016 Resort Collection was debuted on July 19th 2015 at the Funkshion Tent in Miami Beach this past Sunday. Celebrities, Fashion Bloggers, and stylish attendees flocked the scene, so you can image the hoopla surrounding the event was in anticipation for a great show, and an even greater collection. Typical of Maaji, we were expecting to see a few of their style staples, including: off-the-charts-crazy-fun prints, gorgeous color schemes, figure flattering swim silhouettes, and cover ups that make your heart melt. Some new additions we couldn’t wait to see being strut down the runway included men’s swim trunks (and may we say ladies, those models looked GOOD in their Maaji Men’s Swim Shorts) and more active wear pieces that were recently added last season. But we couldn’t believe our eyes as one-by-one, the collection made it’s hugely awaited debut down the runway. Seriously ladies, this collection – bringing in inspiration from magical journeys, hence the theme, “Rhapsody Road” – represents what the Maaji brand is all about. It effortlessly combines fun, whimsy, and a hint of magic to youthful and ultra trendy swimsuit designs and resort wear apparel.

Here are a few of our favorite trends from the 2016 show:

(1) New Year, New Silhouettes:

One of the most notable reasons why Maaji is such an influential player in the designer swimwear game is because they are able to adapt their look to keep up with current trends. The brand keeps true to their classic design aesthetic – such as mixing wildly unique prints with figure flattering silhouettes, like hipster bikini bottoms, feminine bralettes, and underwire bandeau tops – but each season, they add new styles and forms that trendsetters and bikini lovers flock to. For example, this year, we are seeing new macrame detailing, cropped high neck designs, color blocking (a continuation from the ‘Rubiks’ that were hugely popular for 2015), caged styles, and new resort wear. In reference to the latter, Maaji will also be introducing new apparel pieces that function not only as cover ups for the beach or pool, but also as clothing options for every day wear. Who wouldn’t love a Maaji maxi dress or tunic that you can style for work or school? Sign me up please!

(2) Active Wear Mania!:

Although they have recently crossed into this new territory – of the active wear kind – Maaji has shown their ability to transition their swimwear designs onto active wear and yoga wear pieces that we can’t seem to keep on the shelves! In this case, Maaji uses the same care, design atheistic, and high quality fabrics to create active wear for women that are versatile and built for comfort, style, longevity, and performance. In the Active collection, you will see sports bras, leggings, shorts, tanks, and a variety of other options that are designed for various forms of activities – from running and cycling to pilates and more, the versatility of these pieces is virtually endless! Who’s ready to hit the gym in these new pieces?!

(3) Maaji Men’s Swimwear:

Another hugely popular addition to the 2016 collection is Maaji Men’s, a subdivision of the brand that caters to creating fun, functional, and stylish swim shorts for the beach-going-guy in your life. These swim trunks feature the same whimsical prints as seen on Maaji swimsuits for women, and believe me when I say that they look DARN good on. #JustSaying.

(4) Earthy Tones for Fall:

A huge surprise for the 2016 Maaji collection is their use of darker, deeper jewel tones, including dark blues, purples, greens, grays, and blacks to go along with “outdoorsy” Rhapsody Road theme. These colors are a nice change for Maaji, especially since we are used to their vibrant hues and prismatic pastels that generally find their way onto most of the pieces in their collection. These deeper colors for fall are expected to be a huge trend for the 2016 season, so make sure to stock up on these style staples now before they run out!

The Maaji Swimwear team always deliver an incredible collection, and the 2016 line is certainly no exception. With their magical patterns, whimsical silhouettes, and ultimately versatility (BTW, almost all of their suits are reversible), it’s no wonder this show received so much attention during Swim Week. We’ve been counting down the seconds until the 2016 collection hits our site soon, and we can’t wait to see these 2016 swimwear trends and more for the upcoming season!
