So… it’s officially summer now.  Yeah, I know – like, when did THAT happen?  Actually, the first official day of summer was June 21st, and it totally sneaked up on us. If you’re like me, you’re now forcing yourself to do those gosh-awful ab crunches while you’re scrambling to get the finishing touches to the perfect summer “I just threw this outfit together” casual look.

Have no fear!  We’re here to help!  The trick is to use items that you already have in your closet as additions and build very inexpensive summer looks around one signature piece or two.  Here are 4 examples of looks you’ll probably need this summer as well as some tips on how to bring them together effortlessly (and within budget!)

~LOOK 1: Shopping/Sightseeing Day~

style guide - shopping day 2

Everybody needs a good day of shopping every now and then, especially when you’re traveling and need to see all the sights around you.  For this, all you need is a cute crop top like the Match Point Jacqui Crop Top by Vitamin A Swimwear and some high-waisted denim shorts.  From there, throw on some comfy tennies, your fav sunnies, and accessorize in all gold with statement pieces like the ‘Hashtag Necklace’ and the ‘Sunglass Studs’ by Gorjana.  Grab a backpack, a water bottle, and your smartphone for photos and you’re out the door for a day of adventure!

~LOOK 2: Beach/Pool Day~

 Beach Day

While we’re talking about typical summer activities and their appropriate ensembles, we definitely can’t forget about your ultimate beach day outfit.  I have 2 words for you: BEACH. BAG.  Once you have the perfect beach bag (perhaps one like the Mar Y Sol ‘Ibiza Woven Basket’ above?), you have the ultimate tool that doubles as an efficient carry-all as well as an uber cute accessory.  When you get to the sand, you’ll kick off your Mara Hoffman espadrilles and wiggle those toes while you sit back and enjoy.  Oh, and don’t forget about showing off that super sexy new Luli Fama ‘Flamingo Beach’ bikini.  DUH.

~LOOK 3: BBQ with BFFs~

Ah, the dreaded “I have to look super fashionable, but it’s too dang hot for anything sexy” conundrum that comes from planning daytime activities in the summer.  Most women will tell you that looking casually comfortable and collected is never as easy as just throwing on a graphic tee and some old, worn out daisy dukes.  But I’m here to insist that yes, it actually is just that easy!  Get a staple in your closet like a Laundry Room cropped tee and slip on some super summery Soludos espadrilles and before you know it, your look is nonchalantly fabulous.  Thinking of keeping the party going and heading over to the beach bonfire after sundown?  Ditch the Greenpacha ‘Panama Classic’ sun hat and throw on your sheer fringe ‘Neda Kimono’ from PilyQ on and boom. You’ve transitioned into cool summer night wear.

~LOOK 4: Girls’ Night Out~

style guide - girls night out

By now, we’ve figured out a few good pieces to keep in your closet all summer.  Another major one we have yet to discuss is monokinis.  Having any solid color monokini in your closet is like having a forever guarantee that you can go from day by the pool to sexy ladies’ night with little-to-no effort.   Just whip out a pencil skirt or a pair of high waisted shorts, some heels and a little bling (try the Pearl Hipanema bracelet or some Flash Tattoos for extra pizzazz!) and you’re ready for a night out with the girls!

Regardless of what activity you plan to be doing this summer, there are endless possibilities to mix-and-match from the items you already have in your closet.  I recommend picking out a few of the staple pieces I’ve mentioned above to keep your summer style a revolving door of fashionable and flavorful fun!  Happy summer, everyone! <3
