After much anticipation and many wild guesses, it was finally revealed last night who was chosen to be featured as the cover model for Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit, and to be honest, we’re a tad bit shocked. Probably more star-struck. We had heard earlier this week that model Chrissy Teigen was rumored to be the cover star this issue, yet we weren’t expecting THREE lovely ladies to be featured. Beside Chrissy Teigen, models Lily Aldridge and Nina Agdal stand in the azure waters of the Cook Islands making this one of the most unique Sports Illustrated cover’s we’ve seen yet.
The best part about this cover release is the key indicators we see for the upcoming swimwear season. Three things to keep an eye out for:: neon colors, Brazilian bikini bottoms, and ruching! Each of the models on this issue rocks a Brazilian cut bottom, which shows just the right amount of cheek. The neon swimsuits are in abundance with neon yellow to pink to a fiercely fresh orange. It’s clear to see with this cover, plus the promo picks below, that this year is all about the booty. Goodbye cleavage, hello #glorifyingthoseglutes.

Model and newlywed, Chrissy Teigen has showcased her beautiful body and witty personality in the last four issues of SI, so Homegirl has clearly paid her dues. And why not feature her on the cover of the most important issue of Sports Illustrated, yet! She rocks Beach Bunny Swimwear so flawlessly, dubbed in this issue as the “Beach Bunny Bride”.
But it’s not just her looks that SI is swooning over. Sports Illustrated also needs a cover girl who is ready to be a breakout star. Teigen is already a social media heavyweight with 350,000 fans following her silly, alluring tweets. And she recently married singer John Legend, who happened to perform at the Swimsuit Issue‘s 50th Anniversary show. Coincidence? I think not.
Lily Aldridge has clearly been a star in the making. Married to Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill, we also have seen Aldridge walking the runway in a plethora of shows, as well as being featured in British GQ and Vogue amongst many others. Aldridge made her SI swimsuit debut this year and this lucky lady happened to be chosen for the cover as a rookie. I can’t say I blame them, with a smile like that and a winning personality to boot, it should have been an easy choice.
Nina Agdal is a Danish fashion model who has been featured in campaigns for Billabong, Macy’s, and Frederick’s of Hollywood. Last year marked Agdal’s first time in Sports Illustrated and she was quickly dubbed the Rookie of the Year for the issue. And by the looks of this year’s cover issue, we can clearly see why. Agdal was recently linked to The Wanted’s Max George, as well as infamous model monger Leonardo DiCaprio.
The entire Sports Illustrated Issue comes out on Tuesday, February 18th so get ready to peruse some of of our styles and pieces directly from the issue.
