If there is something we love over here at The Orchid Boutique besides swimsuits and resort wear, it is wine. That’s right folks, our beer Fridays have slowly been transitioning into wine Fridays for quite some time now. There’s nothing like kicking back with a glass of Pinot Noir and gabbing with your girlfriends. That’s why our choice of the best girl’s night out in Miami is none other than Schnebly’s Winery.
Located deep in the heart of the Redlands, Florida (we mean reeeallly deep), Schnebly’s winery has been known to house the most exotic wines and beers in the world. The owners Peter and Denisse Schnebly have been living and working in South Florida for over 25 years. They are dedicated to improving South Florida and especially the Redland’s area. Peter and Denisse Schnebly set a goal for themselves of starting an agro-tourism business based from their farms in the Redlands of South Florida. Their vision was to provide tours to visitors of their 96 acres of exotic tropical fruits and gourmet vegetables that they grow and market fresh through their produce company Fresh King, Inc.
In the fall of 2003, the Schnebly’s began experimenting with the fruits, making wine out of their garage in the evenings.
Sustainable farming became a top priority as Schnebly wines are made from only the finest fruit. Each mango, lychee, guava, passion fruit and Carambola is personally picked for fermentation.
Thus a winery was born.
On the weekends is when Schnebly’s really comes to life. Set up like a fancy backyard shindig, a live band plays under the twinkling of stringed lights. Under the enormous tiki hut are rows of wooden picnic tables where families can set up camp, bringing whichever foods and beverages they desire. Although, most just buy bottles from the winery and open them on the spot to enjoy.
The wines at Schnebly’s are not just any run-of-the-mill flavors you may find in a grocery store. Merlots, Cabernets they all are thrown to the wolves and in comes exciting exotic flavors like avocado and lychee. You can also venture into sparkling wines such as the sparkling passion fruit and the Gran Reserve which is most similar to champagne.
Recently, Schnebly’s even ventured into the uncharted territory of brewing their own beer, becoming Miami’s first production craft brewery. My favorite pint from Schnebly’s has to be Big Rod’s Coconut Ale. It is a smooth delicious golden ale with hints of coconut and caramel. So good you can’t have just one.
So the next time you’re looking for the perfect spot to have a family get-together or the perfect girl’s night, head down to Schnebly’s and enjoy the tropical flavors in a little slice of paradise.
