The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue was just released this week and for those of you who haven’t heard, IT WAS AMAZING. Besides the fact that a few of our styles were featured on the lovely ladies inside the issue, a lot of trends were showcased that we have been predicting for months. One of the perks of the Orchid Boutique being in the beautiful Miami, Florida, is the fact that we get to attend the events that just wouldn’t fare well up in the snowy streets of New York. A perfect place to show off some of that designer swimwear: The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2014 Beach Volleyball game!
The lovely SI cover girls Nina Agdal and Lily Aldridge introduced the event, and advised the crowd that each participant had enlisted a sponsor who was playing for the Armed Forces Foundation, an organization that offers vital assistance to active-duty and retired military personnel, National Guard, Reserve Components, and military families. Beautiful and philanthropic. Can we get a high five?
The sun was out, the sexy swimsuits were poppin’, and the volleyball tournament was underway. The SI Swim models were paired with Food Network chefs: Michael Symon, Marc Murphy, Spike Mendelsohn to name just a few. Each team was designated a color and fought hard to be the champions and win a few gold medals of their own (#Sochi, but probablly, most definitely not real).
Check out some of the highlights of the event:
At long last, the third cover model Chrissy Teigen arrived with John Legend. Teigen who was very vocal about “not liking to get dirty”, did not play in the game, but instead brought her puppy dog and her piano-playing husband. She rocked an animal print underwire bandeau underneath her jean jacket.
The blue team, consisting of Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge was victorious in the end and took home the gold overall.
Luckily enough, the models were super friendly and having a blast, drinking Corona Lights and greeting the crowd. I was able to snap a few shots with each cover girl, Lily Aldridge and Maaji Swimwear alum Nina Agdal.
The girls were extremely friendly and even signed a few magazines for fans. It was a beautiful day in sunny South Florida, and an amazing event to be at. Meet a Sports Illustrated supermodel? Crossed off the bucket list.
