While I am lounging by the pool in my  summer beachwear, I always love to flip through my favorite celebrity gossip magazines to catch up on the latest from Tinseltown. It seems like every other article I read has to do with the recent celebrity baby boom that has bombarded Hollywood. From Kim Kardashian and Jenna Dewan Tatum to Halle Berry and Fergie, many of Hollywood’s greatest leading ladies, pop stars, and reality show divas have boarded the baby train to motherhood! Since they are celebrities, you know that everything about giving birth to this little baby is going to be grand – including the baby showers, gifts, nurseries, and hospital accommodations. This can also be said when the baby is given a name. I don’t know about you, but this is the part I always anticipate whenever celebrity couples announce they are expecting. Why you ask? Because you can almost always bet that the name will be something completely out-of-the-ordinary!

For unknown reasons, celebrities have been following the “I should name my kid an uncommon name” trend that has been in Hollywood for many years now. I am not an expert on the subject, but it seems like they do it just because they are celebrities (and can pretty much get away with it too!). I also love hearing the inspiration behind these names; many of them from family, nature, animals, mythology, songs, comic book heroes…Basically, the sky’s the limit!

Our favorite Mommy Blogger extraordinaire, Sarah from The Fashionable Housewife, definitely knows a thing or two when it comes to baby names! Here is her Orchid Boutique Exclusive on her thoughts about the celeb baby name craze:

“It seems like the only celebrity baby names that get attention are of course the unique and sometimes absurd ones. Beyonce named her daughter Blue Ivy, which I’m sure will start a trend in baby names based on colors. At least that’s a trend I could get on board with, unlike poor little Moxie CrimeFighter!  Celebrity-magician, Penn Jillette and his wife, Emily, blessed their daughter with the name Moxie CrimeFighter. While it’s not my cup of tea, it’s certainly unique!

When picking names for our children, my husband and I wanted something unique and different, but certainly steered clear of bizarre and hard to pronounce names like some of these celebrities are coming up with. I never paid much attention to what celebrities were naming their children and I don’t think I would in the future if we decided to have more children.”

For your entertainment, we at The Orchid Boutique and The Fashionable Housewife have put together our top ten favorite celebrity baby names!

1. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – North West

Of course, Reality Star Queen Kim Kardashian and Rap Superstar Kanye West had to be on the top of our list for naming their baby girl North; according to the powerhouse couple, little Nori was given this name because North means “the most high.”

2. Busy Phillips and Marc Silverstein – Cricket Pearl and Birdie Leigh Silverstein

Cougar Town star Busy Phillips recently gave birth to her second child, Cricket Pearl; given that her first child’s name is Birdie, I’m guessing that Busy really enjoys nature…and naming her kids after animals!

3. Gwenyth Paltrow and Chris Martin- Apple Blythe Alison Martin and Moses Bruce Anthony

Who could forget this classic: Gwenyth Paltrow is just as recognized for naming her babies after fruit and Biblical characters as for her acting prowess!

4. Jason Lee and Beth Riesgraf – Pilot Inspektor Riesgraf-Lee

This is possibly one of the strangest names on the list; My Name is Earl Star Jason Lee was inspired by the lyrics from a song on the rock band Grandaddy’s album, The Sophtware Slump. I wonder if Pilot will grow up to be an actual airplane pilot…I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

5. Beyonce and Jay-Z  – Blue Ivy

There was so much buzz over this little baby and her name (other than the fact that her parents are two of the biggest singers on the planet). To add to the hype, Jay-Z filed an application to have little Blue’s name trademarked; this means seeing “Blue Ivy” on all kinds of products, from baby gear to beauty supplies! I especially hope that they come out with a Blue Ivy color; with this as inspiration, we could potentially see a ton of designer swimwear in that very shade!

6. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale – Zuma Nesta Rock and Kingston James McGregor

Although they are unusual, I feel like rock star names like Zuma and Kingston are quite fitting, especially if your mom and dad are real-life rock stars!

7. British Chef, Jamie Oliver, and wife Jools – Buddy Bear Maurice, Poppy Honey Rosie, Daisy Boo Pamela, Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver

Here is another example of a celebrity couple that has a love for nature! Is it just me, or when you hear these names, do you think of names of Care Bears and My Little Ponies?

8. Celebrity-magician, Penn Jillette and his wife, Emily Zolten – Moxie CrimeFighter and Zolten Penn Jillette

Moxie Crimefighter?…This is a name just too unusual for words…

9. Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim – Kal-El Coppola Cage

Actor, and comic book enthusiast, Nicolas Cage named his child after Superman’s Kryptonian birth name, Kal-El. I wonder if Batman and Spiderman were also in the running for this child’s name!

10. Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson– Maxwell Drew and Ace Knute

One of our favorite fashion moguls, Jessica Simpson, chose inspiration from family to select these unique names for her little ones.

…With these intriguing and somewhat wacky names, I can’t wait to hear what Princess Kate and a pregnant Danielle Jonas will name their kids!
