Summer is about to kick into high gear with Memorial Day Weekend just around the corner. This means weekend trips to the beach, picnics in the park, and vacations galore. One of the main components in preparing for these day adventures is what you’re packing in your beach bag! Some people may be content with just throwing a few random items in and calling it a day, but packing your beach bag has officially become a respected art. The last thing you want to do is get to your destination and be without a crucial item! So we’re here to make packing your beach bag easier, by listing some of those uber imperative beach accessories that you don’t want to be without.

1. Beach Towel

This may be obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people forget their towels when they’re amidst the calamity of packing! But also you want to make sure your beach towel is an amazing one. Not one of those $2.50 towels that can be purchased in a pharmacy and ruin all of your clothes when the dye leaks in your wash (ahem). You want an over-sized, extra comfy, super fashionable beach towel that will keep you dry and in style. Check out our latest set of towels by design guru Mara Hoffman.

2. Sunglasses

One of the most important items to go into your beach bag is a quality set of shades. Blocking the sun while keeping you effortlessly cool. Choosing a great pair of sunglasses may be more difficult than you would think. Most people are more focused on style rather than UV protection. But UV eye protection does indeed matter. When you’re choosing sunglasses, look for UV-protection details on product labels. Choose sunglasses that block 99-100% of both UVA and UVB rays. If the sunglasses don’t offer any info on UV protection, then ditch them because they’re probably garbage anyway. Keep in mind that the color and degree of darkness sunglasses provide have nothing to do with the sunglasses’ ability to block UV rays. We don’t want those beautiful eyes getting damaged

3. Beach Turban

Possibly the hottest beach bag accessory of the season is our collection of beach turbans. They’re super cute and extremely stylish and do their part in keeping your hair in place. Especially when you have those untamed seasalt waves going on, throw a turban over them and get that Cali boho-chic look. Maaji has a great set of beach turbans that combine their style and pattern-work into an awesome new accessory. Check it out:

4. Water

By now, everyone should know the importance of hydrating. Drinking water is so necessary for a variety of health reasons. If you need a refresher on why drinking water is important, make sure to check out our blog post. The sun is hot, your sweating out on the beach, you need to keep your skin and your body hydrated. Dehydration can be mild, moderate, or severe based on how much of the body’s fluid is lost or not replenished. When it is severe, dehydration is a life-threatening emergency. So keep cool with a big bottle of H2O.

5. Sunscreen

DO NOT FORGET THIS. Picture us yelling that. Not at you, but just in general. Sunscreen is so underrated because people flock to the beach in hopes to acquire that perfect golden tan. But skin cancer is in full effect and we want to protect your skin entirely. So make sure you get a sunscreen with an SPF of 30+. Reapply every few hours throughout the day just in case and also make sure it’s water proof! Stick it in your beach bag and off you go.

6. Book

There’s nothing like bringing a book to the beach, especially one that’s a page turner. This summer why not embark on a literary journey with two heavy hitters. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Into the Forest by Jean Hegland. Both movies are being adapted into films, so why not read the book first (always more fun) and build up the anticipation of the film’s release! I know I can’t wait to see Ben Affleck in Gone Girl out at the end of the year.

7. Beach Playlist
